Ms. Leigh has extensive experience representing parties on both sides of the isle in domestic violence protective orders, peace orders, and extreme risk protective orders in Maryland & the District of Columbia. Ms. Leigh’s background in criminal defense and extensive trial experience gives her valuable insight on how to best prosecute and defend her clients in protective order cases. In addition, Ms. Leigh’s expertise in firearm regulations gives her a deep understanding of the intersection between mental health and the Second Amendment to best represent her clients in extreme risk protective order cases. Ms. Leigh knows how intensely a protective order, peace order, or extreme risk protective order can affect someone’s life. As a result, she works with her clients every step of the way to achieve the best possible outcome.
Expungements & Criminal Record Sealing
Ms. Leigh understands the catastrophic effects that a record of a criminal arrest or criminal conviction can have on a person’s future. Ms. Leigh enjoys assisting her clients with moving on after they have paid their debt to society. In addition, even where someone is found not guilty after trial or was never formally charged with a crime after an arrest, their record may still follow them. To this end, Ms. Leigh has successfully expunged and sealed a variety of criminal records, including vacating convictions via coram nobis motions and the Youth Rehabilitation Act. Ms. Leigh believes that a criminal arrest or conviction should not mean a life sentence.
Victim & Witness Representation
As an experienced criminal defense attorney, Ms. Leigh understands how important it is for victims and witnesses to receive competent advice and guidance through criminal investigations, grand jury proceedings, and trials. Ms. Leigh has substantive knowledge and experience assessing and asserting legal privileges on behalf of her clients. Ms. Leigh will carefully inspect the details of each case to ascertain whether a legal privilege may apply. The most asserted privileges are the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and the spousal testimonial privilege. Ms. Leigh is also versed in negotiating immunity agreements with prosecutors on behalf of witnesses, particularly in the grand jury context.

As a former attorney for a firearm owners’ insurance company, Ms. Leigh has experience litigating firearm permit denials and revocations in the Office of Administrative Hearings throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. She will analyze the facts and circumstances of each case meticulously to make the strongest case for her clients. Her background in criminal defense combined with her expertise in firearm regulations gives her substantive knowledge on how to best represent her clients navigating the complexities of firearm regulations.
